For some homeowners, home maintenance and home repairs can often feel overwhelming. Home repairs do not have to be performed on a large scale though, as there are several do-it-yourself projects that almost any homeowner can successfully complete. This article gives you several do-it-yourself tips for a few different home repairs. Jacksonville real estate, which is kept updated and in good repair, will be easier to sell when the time is right.

Tip # 1 – Fixing A Leaky Faucet

Fixing a leaky faucet is easier than it sounds. First, turn off the water supply. Second, open up the faucet and drain all excess water out of the pipes. Next, plug the sink with a towel or drain plug to prevent any screws or parts from going down the drain. Then, use a screwdriver to remove the faucet handle. Last, remove all of the parts of the faucet to determine which part is in need of replacement or repair. Check with your local home improvement store for replacement pieces.

Tip # 2 – Unclogging A Toilet

To unclog a toilet, you will first want to put a few old towels around the base of the toilet in case of splashes or overflow. Second, scoop most of the water out with a bucket and leave just enough to cover a plunger. Third, insert the rubber part of the plunger into the toilet making sure it covers the entire opening in the toilet. Next, push the plunger handle downwards about ten times. With quick even plunges, you should be able to clear the obstruction.

Tip # 3 – How to Fix Squeaky Door Hinges

The first thing you can try is WD-40. With the door still attached, spray WD-40 oil into each of the door hinges. Open and close the door a few times to see if the hinges still squeak. If this does not work, remove the pin from the first hinge. Rub petroleum jelly into the hinge and then replace the pin. Repeat this with each of the hinges. When you are finished, your squeaky door should be quiet once again.

As you can see, small home repairs usually just take a few steps to solve the problem. If you are not sure where to start, many of these repairs can be completed step-by-step from online tutorials or books which can be purchased locally in home improvement or book stores. Some repairs may seem complicated, but it is possible to save money and complete many of them yourself.

If you find you are in over your head however, be sure to contact a professional. You don’t want to get yourself into a position where you have taken something completely apart and you either can’t repair it or you can’t put it all back together correctly. When buyers in the market are looking for Jacksonville homes for sale, they want homes which have little to no problems to fix or repairs to complete and homes which are considered ‘move-in ready’. Make sure your home is always ‘move-in ready’ by taking care of home repairs as soon as possible instead of allowing the problem to get out of control.
