A Brief History of Jacksonville, Florida
As with most Florida cities, Jacksonville is an area that is very abundant in history dating back thousands of years. However, it wasn’t really until the year 1822 that it was called “Jacksonville.” Jacksonville was a very important city throughout the American Civil War, as it was called on to supply hogs and cattle for the Confederates. After the American Civil War, the town was a complete disaster – nothing at all what it is like today. Once Jacksonville was rebuilt, however, it actually became a place known for the rich and famous to come to vacation and enjoy the winter months. Even later, sometime in the early 1900’s, there were many filmmakers who began making movies in Jacksonville because they were attracted by the year-round warm climate in Florida. For a time, Jacksonville was aptly nicknamed the “Winter Film Capital of the World.”
