As one of the oldest neighborhoods in Jacksonville, San Marco is a great choice for many relocating to the area. It dates back to the 1800s and is found south of Downtown Jacksonville. This area used to be just a farming community and it was originally named Oklahoma.

After the construction of many Mediterranean-style buildings, the area's name became San Marcos. Many of these original buildings are still standing and the name was taken from the area in Venice known by the same name.

At the center of the area, San Marco Square is found with plenty of great restaurants, a small park and a number of unique boutiques and shops. Some of the shops in the area are very well-known, along with many of the restaurants winning awards every year.

San Jose and San Marco of Jacksonville, Florida are bordered to the west by the St. Johns River and by U.S. 1 to the east. San Marco is a mix of architectural styles and uses. From large, expansive riverfront homes to quadstyle apartments, San Marco of Jacksonville, Florida has a lifestyle fit for both work and play. If the square is the center of San Marco, the ornately-made bronze lion sculptures, accompanying fountain and gazebo are the square’s trademark. On either side of the square are a vibrant array of shops and a mix of local fare and franchised cafes and restaurants from which to choose. A popular area for young professionals, San Jose and San Marco are close to the river and downtown. The area features boutique shopping and entertainment in San Marco Square, and private country clubs and private schools along San Jose Boulevard. Spanish architecture is a common theme in the area. A number of public schools are also nearby.
