In its absolute heyday, Bayard was a thriving Jacksonville community and business center at the side of US 1 along the Atlantic Coast through Florida's eastern shore. With industry development, a rail station, and lovely seashore nearby, it saw traffic and travelers regularly from the time its first plot was drawn out in 1884. The lots were eight to a block and four to a side - equal rectangles of land. Some of the original platted blocks and roads were never built, but the plan had been in place for a prosperous future.
When the traffic moved from the US 1 to the wider highways that began taking over, commerce and industry also started to move on to other parts of Duval County. A core of residents and businesses stayed, but the great expansion originally hoped for did not appear when predicted. Ironically, Bayard's failure to grow back then is what makes Bayard such a wonderful place now.
Nocatee FL Real Estate Homes | Bayard Florida Real Estate Duval County
Times have changed again. Still mainly residential, with nearly 78,000 people, Bayard is again playing host to incoming industry at the expansive Flagler Center that has risen between US 1 and I 95. Planned communities like Nocatee have also brought interest back to the area. Click here for current Nocatee homes for sale in St. Johns County). Eventually there will be condos for sale also in Nocatee.
Nocatee is a divided location, sitting on the bank of the St John River with its population being in both St John and Duval counties. The result is great choice of multiple styles of homes and communities.
Nocatee: Planned and Growing Community
Planned communities are nothing new; however, a thriving town with services, amenities, abundant employment, and an eye to the future is always a good place to call home.
Many fine home builders have crafted diverse neighborhoods within the 'town' to appeal to all lifestyles. Family traditional neighborhoods, elegant country club style homes, active adult areas with trails and paths, and beach oriented homes put your right where you want to be if the sea and surfing are your passion. Let's not forget the 'in-towners.' The city center plan calls for not only commercial and business locations, but for homes geared toward those who like to be in the center of things day or night. Condos and townhomes for the building-up or scaling-down have not been ignored in the plan for this community.
The town center plays host to concerts and events for the entire spectrum of residents from children to seniors. Gracious spaces and planned protection for the delicate natural habitat that the residents become part of make this a town with a sustainable future.
Nocatee Planning Has Kept the Family in Mind
Neighborhood Schools. They used to be the mainstay of the local activities for children and families, and they are headed back toward that blueprint again. Nocatee is well aware that children in neighborhoods with a neighborhood school system tend to focus better on learning. There is less disruption in both social and scholastic relationships. Children with less disruptive schooling programs flourish.
Does the idea of high schools, middle schools and elementary schools in your own 'home town' appeal to you? Children can walk safely or bike to and from schools instead of sitting for hours on a bus. Extracurricular activities are more enjoyable when the family and students are not rushing to make the long haul back and forth from home to work to school.
Imagine strolling to parent-teacher night at the local school, seeing your neighbors along the walk - a much more pleasant way to go than arriving at the school, traffic headache in full swing and still far from home when it's all over.

Everything from Traditional to Modern, single family to town homes and condos are waiting to welcome you in. All it takes is a Nocatee area Realtor to help you make your dreams come true.
