St. Johns County lies to the South of Duval County and Jacksonville, West of Clay County and Putnam County and to the north of Flagler County. St. Johns County is buffered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.

Between Ponte Vedra Beach and Vilano Beach lies Guana River State Park, spanning both sides of A1-A from the Tolomato River (part of the Intracoastal) to the ocean. A Spanish historian’s account from 1592 has led modern scholars to believe that Guana River was the site of Ponce de Leon’s first landing in Florida. The park, with its high, untouched sand dunes, retains the appearance of Florida’s pristine coastline as it may have appeared at the arrival of the Spanish. The park has a small lookout tower and 8.5 miles of unpaved hiking trails, accessible from South Ponte Vedra Beach.
St. Johns County’s is experiencing a booming economy and rapid development. St. Johns County ranks second in population growth for all 67 Florida counties with a 6.7% growth for the years 2003-2004. The projected growth rate for 2005-2010 is 20.6 percent. The population of St. Johns County is 161,525 (2005 Census Bureau estimate).
St. John's County is a stable and steadily growing county that shares some resources with the Jacksonville City Regional systems, but also maintains its individual character and government. St. Augustine Beach and Hastings hold the number 2 and 3 spots respectively in the county seat.
The 2006 count showed the population to be 169,224 with a projection of steady growth showing an estimated population of 222,213 by 2015. The county is already taking those projections into account with business and housing projects to increase St. John's County properties.
