A Brief History of Vilano Beach, Florida

The beach here is known for its distinctive look due to its mixture of coquina and sand. When the old Vilano Beach Bridge was built in the 1920's, the area was popularized and the real estate boom began. A developer by the name of August Heckshire built the first wooden bridge here, which lasted until sometime near the end of World War II. There is a new high-rise bridge today that serves the modern area a bit better, as the very first homes in Vilano Beach were simple beach homes and cottages for fishermen.
