Perhaps one of the most important figures in St. Augustine, historically, was Henry Flager. It was Flager who formed much of what is St. Augustine today, including the Alcazar and Ponce de Leon Hotels. It was his vision of St. Augustine as a winter resort destination for wealthy northerners which allowed the community to become what it is today.
Modern day St. Augustine is a tropical paradise. White sand beaches stretch past historic sites like the Castillo San Marcos, the fort that defended the Spanish colony of Florida. The outdoor lifestyle is displayed in dramatic force here with golf courses and tennis courts dotting the landscape. An extensive network of local trails and green spaces allows residents of St. Augustine real estate to enjoy the benefits of Florida's natural bounty.
