North Amelia Island - Fernandina Beach
In the north, are the Fernandina Beach oceanfront condos. These are are normal Florida oceanfront condominiums on a quiet beach area. It has more of the non-planned cross street feel of our older beaches. The condos are off of S Fletcher Ave which is also known as Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway.
South Amelia Island
In the South part of the island along the beach is where you will find the luxury gated, golf communities with oceanfront condos. This is where Summer Beach and Amelia Island Plantation are located.

Amelia Island is the name for the whole island. This includes Fernandina Beach, Amelia City, American Beach and Franklintown as you would see on the map.
Some people when they say "Amelia Island" actually mean "Amelia Island Plantation". Just like when they say "Fernandina Beach" they actually mean historic downtown Fernandina Beach.
Location - Where is it?
Now that we have defined Amelia Island as the whole island, we can tell you this is the most Northeastern part of Florida. While the point in Key West is famous for being the most southern, most people forget that Fernandina Beach in Amelia Island; or more specifically Fort Clinch State Park is the most northern. Then you have the St. Marys River and Georgia.
It is considered a part of the Jacksonville metro area. It is located northeast of Downtown Jacksonville FL.

Amelia Island is known as a nice, quiet beach area. It has a resort feel in the south with the Ritz Carlton and Omni Plantation serving as two major landmarks.

Golf
melia Island offers three distinct golf courses each with unique features. Long Point and Oak Marsh are both traditional 18-hole courses, while Little Sandy is a short course designed for fun and community engagement.

Outdoor Activiities
Amelia Island is for the outdoor lover. Starting with the beach you can search for shells, surf, paddleboard, body board, skim board and more. But you also have the intracoastal waterway and offshoots. So you can paddleboard, kayak, canoe in a scenic marsh area also.
Fishing is popular with offshore fishing and inshore fishing available.
Parks abound in Amelia Island. Take a hike and see old oaks, driftwood, and other untouched vistas by visiting one of the parks. If hiking, is not your thing then grab your bike.
Want something more peaceful? Birdwatching is popular with the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Or just bring a basket of food and enjoy an afternoon picnic.

There are many events in and around Amelia Island. But the two that stand out are:
Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival
This is an annual celebration that happens in Downtown St Augustine. Get ready to eat a bunch of shrimp and see artist display their creations. If you time it right you will see the pirates invading!
Concours d'Elegance
If you are into classic cars then you already know about this event. Come see one of the world's most prestigious cars shows right here in Amelia Island.
