If you are in the market for one of the homes for sale in St. Johns County, or if you have recently purchased a new home and are preparing to move, you may have concerns about how to move your pets in the process. Below are several tips to follow to ensure your move goes as smoothly as possible as it relates to your furry family members, especially if you are making a long distance move.

Tip # 1 – Update Your Pets Tag and Get Vet Records

Your pet’s tag should include your pet’s name, your name, your new home address, and your cell phone number. In the event that your pet turns up missing amidst the chaos of moving, whoever finds your pet will be able to locate you easily to return him or her to your family. Be sure to obtain your pet’s medical records from your current vet so that you can provide important information about vaccinations and medical history to your new vet.

Tip # 2 – Prepare a Safe Place

While you are in the process of moving, prepare a safe place for your pet to hang out that is not as chaotic as the rest of your home. Bathrooms are ideal for this purpose. Provide bedding, food, water, and toys to keep your pet occupied. Keeping your pet separated from the craziness of moving will keep your pet’s stress level to a minimum and will prevent him or her from slipping out the door unnoticed.

Tip # 3 – Prepare Your New Home

Your pet will likely be anxious and overwhelmed by the move into a new home. To make it as easy as possible, set out familiar things such as food and water bowls, toys, and bedding in a spot that will be comfortable. Make sure these items are packed in an easy spot to get to so they can be taken out right away.
