Plans Change For The Jacksonville Public Library

Despite former plans to make additions to the library building, the Jacksonville Finance Committee recommended that the architect go back to the drawing board and re-draw new plans which will work with the library’s budget for the proposed project. The Mayor, Johnny Smith, is looking for the city to set aside $200,000 for the library’s new addition, bringing the total budget for the project to $515,000.

Architect Had Bigger Plans

When the architect, Ronald G. Cannon, submitted his plans for the library’s new building addition, it came with a cost of over $900,000. While the addition would be been very spacious, covering the entire back parking lot of the Jacksonville Public Library, an addition of that size and cost is not feasible for the city. The addition will include nice features such as an elevator, new restrooms, and a multi-purpose area for residents of Jacksonville to enjoy.

Bidding On Alternatives

The request for new plans will include three alternatives for the city to choose from for the planned library expansion in terms of square footage and add-ons. From these choices, the city of Jacksonville can determine how much it can afford to do and it will leave room for further expansion of the Jacksonville Public Library in the future.
