Jacksonville Schools in Duval County Face A Tighter Budget Crunch
School Information
The Southeast Citizens Planning Advisory Committee met recently to discuss the problems that the district will face due to tightening budgets in Duval County schools. With more than 160 schools in Jacksonville, the financial issues put a serious strain on the school district when it comes to deciding how exactly the budget will be used. Duval County Public Schools will be forced to use millions less than it needs. Therefore, the advisory committee met to make suggestions on where money could be saved and how waste could be prevented to make the most efficient use of the money the schools will receive.
Many community residents were also in attendance at the meeting to offer suggestions. Some creative suggestions were put on the table which could help the schools save money on things such as milk, juice and snacks as much of it is apparently going to waste and being put in the dumpster because it is not all being used. Additionally, the district is looking at school closings and consolidations.
More Budget Cuts To Come?
In light of current budget cuts and possibly more to come according to the district, many administrative positions have been cut and about $140 less will be spent per student during the upcoming school year. Despite the cuts however, Duval County schools are still striving for excellence for its students. Residents of Jacksonville and those looking to purchase Jacksonville property do not need to worry about their children receiving a good education. Though the Jacksonville real estate market continues to thrive, the economy is still hurting. Everyone is feeling the crunch, but Duval County Public Schools are working to ensure that whatever happens with the budget does not affect the quality of education for its students.
