With the start of summer this month, Jacksonville Beach and other Florida residents gear up to beat the summer heat. For those of you looking to purchase one of the many great Jacksonville Beach homes for sale, now is the perfect time to find out how residents stay safe from the sun’s summer rays while still enjoying all of the fun activities of the season.

The Jacksonville Medical Center has put together a list of tips to help you prepare for the higher summer temperatures.

Tip # 1 – Keep hydrated.

It is extra important to stay hydrated with plenty of water. Sweet drinks such as soda will not hydrate your body. You should also make sure to give your pets plenty of water.

Tip # 2 – Protect your skin with sunscreen.

The higher the Sun Protection Factor (SPF), the better. Wearing at least an SPF 30 sunscreen or higher is your best bet to keeping your skin safe from the sun’s harmful rays. You can also wear a hat to give your face extra shade and protection.

Tip # 3 – Be reasonable about how long you stay outside.

A heat stroke can sneak up and surprise you. Pay attention to how your body is reacting to the heat so that you know whether it is time to head inside. Also remember never to leave children and pets in locked cars with the windows up. Temperatures inside can reach well over a hundred degrees with fatal results.

Jacksonville Beach is the perfect place to live, work, and play. When it comes to the summer heat and higher temperatures however, it is better to be safe than sorry. Taking the proper precautions will ensure that you have fun all summer long without worrying about heat related injuries.
