Home Sellers: Think Safety When Showing your Home
Seller
In addition to all of the other things you must fret about when selling your Jacksonville property, tack safety on as a priority. In particular, think safety when potential home buyers visit your home, either for a private showing or for an open house. In addition to pleasing and attracting potential buyers, you’ll need to consider the overall safety of your home before letting that first visitor through the front door.
The following safety checklist will help you evaluate your Jacksonville home’s safety:
- Driveway – Are there cracks, holes or uneven areas which could create a tripping hazard?
- Outside Steps/Walkway – Like the driveway, are there any cracks, holes or uneven areas which could cause a person to trip and fall? Are the stairs even? Is there a handrail for added safety? Are there any rocks or loose debris that can be removed? Are there any toys, flower pots or other items which may be tripped over?
- Front entrance – Is the front entrance properly lit and clear of debris? Is the front step clearly defined? Is there a floor mat available to wipe wet feet?
- Foyer – Are all shoes removed from this area to prevent trip and fall incidents? Is there an umbrella holder and a coat rack to accommodate outerwear and wet supplies? Is there a rug to wipe wet feet?
- Flooring – Are there any loose rugs which could slide out from under someone’s feet? Is the flooring free of any cracks and unsecured corners?
- Lighting – Are the rooms well lit? Are the stairs and the hallway adequately illuminated?
- Walkways – Are the home’s walkways and hallways free of clutter and other debris? Are toys picked up and put away?
- Pets – Are all pets either secured or removed from the home as to not pose a tripping hazard?
- Deck – Are the floorboards even and free of protruding nails and screws?
