Home-Building Trends: What you can Expect to see in New Homes
New Construction
Up until several years ago, homeowners didn’t quite grasp the concept of “less is more.” Fast-forward to 2009 and the “less is more” concept is certainly alive and well – and it’s reflected in new home communities all across the nation.
We have all learned a thing or two as a result of the credit crisis and struggling housing market; we don’t really need all of the excesses that we were expected during the height of the housing boom. Taking the place of three-car garages and over-the-top interior spaces are practicality and sensibility.
New home buyers are looking for home features that will make their lives easier. They are also looking for home designs that will provide them with comfort and beauty, but that will not break the bank.
What are the Biggest Trends for New Homes?
- Less Square Footage – Industry reports show that, over the last three years, that the square footage in new Jacksonville homes has begun to slowly decrease. Homeowners now realize that, along with square footage comes high energy bills, and they just aren’t willing to take on the outrageous utility bills.
In fact, even larger homes are now scaling back on the square footage. You will still see beautiful interiors with luxury bathrooms and high-end materials and appliances; you just won’t see the fifth bedroom or the fourth bathroom.
- More Storage – New home builders are reporting an increase in demand for storage space. From walk-in closets to large pantries and garage organizational systems, home storage is a popular alternative to unused space throughout the home.
- Women-Friendly Designs - Designing for the woman of the house is as popular as ever. Large master bathrooms, spacious master suites, first-floor laundry rooms and kitchens with plenty of storage and loads of high-end materials are all very popular in new home design.
- Outdoor Spaces – Outdoor living continues to be an important aspect of new Jacksonville homes. New home buyers are looking for plenty of outdoor living space for entertaining and relaxing. From swimming pools to expansive decks and beautifully landscaped back yards, the backyard is still tops on the list when it comes to new home design.
- Green living – New home builders are employing plenty of green building practices for their new homes. From low VOC carpeting and paint, to eco-friendly materials and energy-certified windows and doors, new homes now feature the best in environmentally sensitive products and home designs.
