Things you Can Do Now in Anticipation of Closing
Mortgages
The time between having your offer accepted on your first Jacksonville home and signing the deal at the closing is an exciting and hurried time. So many things to do, so little time!
The following list will help you stay organized and on-task when taking care of all the little things associated with moving:
- Get all of the appropriate paperwork together in anticipation of closing. Talk with your real estate agent and closing company about what you will need to bring, and have it organized and ready to go ahead of time.
- Inform friends, family and business associates of your new address. Now is the perfect time to have pre-printed address change cards made so that you can easily send out your new information. You may want to use the convenience of email to inform your business contacts, as well.
- Begin contacting your utility companies for both your current home and your new Jacksonville home. Don’t underestimate the amount of time it will take to have your utilities changed, transferred or activated! Many homeowners find themselves spending hours on the phone taking care of these details.
- Contact your children’s current school and have their records sent to their new school. Familiarize your children with their new school by taking them for a visit and a tour. Make sure all of their paperwork is completed well before your move.
- Have a yard sale! Now is a great time to clear out all your excess junk before your move! Make it a family affair and sort through everything that you no longer want or need. Not only is a yard sale a great time to scale down your move, but it may also prove to be lucrative, as well.
- Begin to familiarize yourself with your new neighborhood. Find out the location of the nearest grocery store, gas station and convenience store, for example.
